Advisory: Renunciation services outsourced

Indian passport holders are required to surrender their passports to Indian Embassy/Consulates as per appropriate jurisdiction  on acquisition of foreign citizenship. On surrender of their passports, they will be issued surrender certificates/renunciation certificate and their passport will be cancelled and returned to them. No renunciation certificate/surrender certificate will be issued if latest Indian passport is not surrendered.

Indian passport holders, who acquired foreign citizenship before 1st June 2010, will be required to pay miscellaneous fee of US$20/- for surrender certificate. Those,  who acquired foreign citizenship on or after 1st June 2010, will be required to pay US$175/- as renunciation fee for above said services.

Indian passport cannot be used for travel beyond three months after acquisition of foreign citizenship. If the Indian passport, the validity of which expired on or after 1.1.2005, is retained beyond three years after acquisition of foreign citizenship, a penalty of US$250/- will be charged. In addition, a penalty of US$250/- will be charged in each case of misuse of the Indian passport for travel after three months of acquisition of foreign citizenship, which may go up to US$1250/-.

The Consulate General of India, New York has outsourced the handling of renunciation of Indian citizenship services to M/S TRAVISA Outsourcing. The outsourcing arrangement in respect of area falling under consular jurisdiction of the Consulate General of India, New York (The Jurisdiction of Consulate General of India, New York is Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont, as well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.) will come into effect on 15th February 2011.  M/S TRAVISA Outsourcing will receive applications for renunciation services from 15th February 2011. Note:
Please note that renunciation certificate can be issued only if the last Indian passport is physically surrendered. In case the last Indian passport is lost, Renunciation Certificate will not be issued.
