The International Boston Seafood Show 2012 was convened in the Boston Convention Center, Boston, MA, from 11-13 March 2012. India’s nodal seafood promotional Agency, Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) participated in the Show displaying an array of seafood products - frozen and packaged - at its booth – “India Pavilion”.

India’s seafood exports in the year 2010-2011 to US Market have grown by almost 45%. The export in the current year in value terms has been $545.74 million for the period April- December 2011. Indian seafood exports to US are expected to reach $700 million by end of March 2012.

MPEDA has been participating in the Show from last 10 years. This year MPEDA had 6 Co-Exhibitors: Dish Hospitality Pvt. Ltd., West Coast Frozen Foods Pvt. Ltd., Gadre Marine Exports Pvt. Ltd., Seven Seas Exports Pvt. Ltd., Surya Mitra Exim Pvt. Ltd., Shree Datt Aquaculture Farms Pvt. Ltd.

One of the Co-Exhibitor Dish Hospitality won the 2012 Seafood Excellence Award for the second time in a row for their product “Oriental Shrimp Nest” as the Best New Food Service Award. The $30 Million Company has gone miles in Value Added Products and they are striving for quality excellence. They are proud of making their product in India and presenting it to the World.

“India Pavilion” attracted a lot of potential buyers and various trade inquiries were received. MPEDA also had a cooking demonstration in the Pavilion showcasing the most popular Indian Black Tiger Shrimp and the White Shrimp-Vannamei. The taste of the Indian Seafood was appreciated by all visitors.

Ambassador Prabhu Dayal, Consul General of India in New York visited the “India Pavilion” and had a lot of praise for the booth. He congratulated the winner of Seafood Excellence Award “Dish Hospitality” and motivated them to excel in future. He assured full support of the Consulate General of India, New York to promote Indian seafood trade to US.

MPEDA has been facilitating the Indian seafood exporters and supporting them so that they get appropriate exposure of the international market and its demand. The participation in the Boston Show has given the Indian seafood exporters a platform to make their business grow by leaps and bounds. Chairman, MPEDA Ms. Leena Nair remarked that “India had already exported over $3 billion value of seafood products during April - December2011 and hopes to touch $3.5 billion by the end of March 2012.” She added “Boston Show 2012 will definitely help us in achieving this goal and strengthen the Brand India in the US Market.”
