Sandeep Chakravorty,a member of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) since 1996, has served in India’s Missions across several geographies.

Prior to assuming charge as Consul General of India in New York on August 3, 2017, he was the Ambassador of India to Peru and Bolivia with residence in Lima from 2015 to 2017. From 2012 to 2015 he served as India’s Deputy Chief of Mission in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has held several overseas assignments, including in India’s Missions in Madrid and Bogota. Within India, as part of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, New Delhi he held positions as Press Relations Officer and Private Secretary to Minister of State for External Affairsand workedon desks dealing with Central Asia, East Asia and China.

Mr. Chakravorty has extensive experience working with organizations dealing with natural resources and environmental issues in India, sectors where he worked before joining the Government of India.

He received his graduate degree in Advanced Studies in International Security from Geneva Universityandholds a Master’s degree in Sociology besides a Post Graduate Diploma in Forestry Management. He graduated in Physics from Delhi University.

Fluent in Hindi, Bangla, English and Spanish, Mr. Chakravorty enjoys cooking, reading on International Relations and the Environment and spending time with his wife and twin daughters.
